AMD FX-8320 Overview
The first thing we noticed when we received this CPU was the box, or more to the point the "tin" it is packaged in.
It is impressive, far better than the cardboard alternatives and although we had seen pictures it is fair to say they don't do it justice.
As with its bigger brother the FX-8350 this processor has the newer Vishera Core technology, it has eight of them running at a standard 3.5GHz with the option to boost up to 4GHz.
It should be noted that 4GHz is the standard speed of the FX-8350, and due to the large gap in price you would have to consider whether to buy this FX-8320 CPU and boost it as opposed to the faster more expensive FX-8350.
Usually we would test a CPU like this with games and we did so for a short time, watching it breeze through anything we threw at it including Modern Warfare 3.
But we wanted to do something a bit different so we decided to see how it performs on an intensive process like DVD ripping. After deciding to use a series of Stargate SG-1 as a benchmark we started and were immediately gob smacked.
Using MakeMKV and our Samsung Blu Ray drive we ripped episodes in less than four minutes each, that equates to a little over an hour for an entire TV series at full DVD quality.

Manufacturer : AMD
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) are a Processor Design and Manufacturing company, they are most well known for their ranges of Desktop PC Processors but also supply Mobile and Server Processors. The latter being primarily for cloud computing and virtualization environments. AMD devices are used everywhere from the smallest PC to state of the art Super Computers. Their purchase of ATI in 2006 has led to AMD developing CPU's that not only do normal processing functions but also graphics processing functions within a single chip.
