Intel Israeli Press Release, a Hoax

8th August 2014
Intel have announced the press release on Thursday claiming it would be suspending its investment in Israel is a hoax. The report was issued by an "unknown person" using the pseudonym “Nick Veritas.” Veritas is Latin for truth.

Fake Website
The perpetrator went to great lengths to convince readers that the press release was legitimate, including building a fake website that looked like Intel’s own news room. Also included was a phone number for reporters which when answered assured callers that the release was genuine.

Cancelled Investment
The elaborate hoax was designed to scare, claiming that Intel had changed its mind over the $6 Billion investment in a planned chip plant in southern Israel. It claimed the decision had been made due to "destruction and loss of life resulting from Israel’s recent assault on Gaza".

Intel have since released a statement on their official news room letting everyone know that it was indeed a hoax, albeit a very elaborate one.

Intel are an American multinational Design and Manufacturing company founded in 1968 and are currently the largest semiconductor chip manufacturer. They are most well known for their ranges of Desktop PC Processors and also Mobile and Server Processors although they also produce Solid State Drives and Motherboards for the retail sector.
