Samsung Achieve joyn Blackbird Accreditation

Samsung have announced, they have become the first Smartphone provider to be accredited with joyn Blackbird from the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA). Incorporating joyn Blackbird will allow Samsung customers (on major networks) to experience more stable and convenient chat, live video and file sharing capabilities.

  • Video and Image Share functionalities allowing users to switch to a video call or share pictures during a voice call.
  • Fully Integrated Messaging incorporating joyn onto existing SMS/MMS apps as well as SMS/MMS conversion when a joyn participant is not available.
  • File transfer support during 1-to-1 chatting or group chatting, non joyn users receive an SMS for download.
Commenting on the accreditation J.K Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics said, “RCS is a progressive and important technology that is transforming the future of mobile communication. As a market leader in technology, Samsung continues to differentiate itself by providing our customers with the most advanced mobile communications software and solutions available.”

Samsung plan to offer joyn Blackbird only on its flagship devices such as the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4. It will be available by the end of 2014 in Germany and Spain but will also be rolled out across Europe, including the UK, France and Italy at a later date.

Samsung is a Korean based company who specialise in the design and production of semiconductor and electronic components. They are most well known for their ranges of Mobile / Cell Phones, Consumer Electronics Audio/Video devices, Computer Memory, Flash memory and more recently SSD Drives, LED devices and Low Power solutions for the mobile industry.
