Dell's New Converged Data Centres For Travel Super Site Skyscanner

20th January 2014
Dell have announced that they are working with Travel Search Site Skyscanner to design and build two new converged data centres in the UK and Singapore. They also have plans to deploy a similar site in Hong Kong this month.

Traffic Increase
Skyscanner have been looking for an IT partner to help with their explosive growth in 2013 which saw an 84 percent increase in traffic and over 25 million app downloads. They had been using hosted IT resources but felt the need to spread their wings and opted to partner with Dell to make this a reality.

Blade Solutions
Dell's Blade Solutions will be at the core of Skyscanners expansion, and as well as hardware provision they will also benefit from Dell's ProSupport Mission Critical four-hour response service. Amongst the technologies to be used are.
  • Dell EqualLogic Blade Arrays
  • Dell PowerEdge Blade servers
  • Dell Networking MXL Blade switching
  • Dell Blade chassis management software

Reducing Costs
Once everything is in place Skyscanner expects its IT infrastructure costs to reduce by up to one third over a period of three years. They will be utilising Dell's IT Advisory Services which will enable them to properly optimise current equipment and allow them to monitor growth and implement additional hardware before any problems occur.

Aisling Keegan, Dell UK's General Manager and Executive Director for Preferred Accounts said “Web-based services across the world are experiencing great market opportunities as consumers and businesses increasingly spend online. As these organisations grow and become more successful, the challenge of providing a consistently high quality of service becomes crucial to long-term success. Dell’s converged end-to-end solutions and services provide the scalability, flexibility and performance required to help organisations deploy powerful data centre environments to support heavy demand and accommodate rapid business growth.”

Dell Inc, formerly Dell Computers is an American Computer Company based in Texas (USA). Dell produce Home and Business Computers, Servers, Ultrabooks and Laptops to name but a few and are one of the largest computing companies in the world today.
