LG Announces Its First Compact Smartphone, The G2 Mini

21st February 2014
LG have announced the release of its first ever compact smartphone, the G2 Mini. The phone, a smaller version of LG's G2, which itself has won numerous awards throughout 2013 will be available globally in March 2014.

Mid Range Phone, Premium Hardware
LG considers the G2 mini to be a mid range phone release mainly due to its screen size being below 5 inches. However the 4.7 inch IPS screen comes backed by some impressive hardware, including Quad Core CPU as standard and a powerful 2440mAh battery. The phone is expected to have 3G and 4G releases although the first release will be a 3G version.

UX Features
Along with the impressive hardware list LG have kept some of the more user friendly UX features found in its premium G Series models. These include Guest Mode, Plug & Pop, Clip Tray and Capture Plus.

Commenting on the G2 Mini Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said “The G2 mini is all about bringing the best user experience of the G2 to a more compact, mid-tier device, giving millions of customers the opportunity to benefit from the LG premium experience. This device offers the perfect balance of modern design and practical UX in a compact package without compromising performance.”

Tegra 4i wasted...
Having had a good look through the specs and knowing quite a bit about Nvidia's Quad Core Tegra 4i, we have to say it may be a little wasted on this device. The Tegra 4i is capable of full HD resolutions, however the screen LG have opted to fit is not. It is also capable of utilising more memory than will be fitted to this smartphone.

However that being said it's always better to have a phone that is overpowered rather than underpowered, and it could have been worse, LG could had opted to use the Tegra 4 which is capable of almost 4K resolutions. That chip would barely need to switch on to run this smartphone.

Where To See
For those of you that will be attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, due to be held between February 24th and 27th, 2014. LG’s Booth will be in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via and this device along with many others will be on display there.
