LG's G SERIES, LG G PRO 2 To Debut at the Mobile World Congress 2014

18th February 2014
LG have announced the release of its newest G Series device, the LG G PRO 2, is now available to the Korean public. Availability dates for the rest of the world have not yet been set, hopefully this will be announced when the phone showcases at this years Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, due to be held between February 24th and 27th, 2014.

Last Year
Some of you will remember that in 2013 LG won the coveted "Best Smartphone of MWC 2013" with its G Pro device and with the G Pro 2 being its successor all eyes will be on it to see if LG can pull off a repeat performance.

5.9 inch display
Continuing the trend of big screen phones the G Pro 2 is to be equipped with a state of the art 5.9 inch Full HD IPS display and extra slim bezel of 3.3mm, making a current record screen to frame ratio of 77.2 percent. The Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display powered by a Qualcomm Technologies’ Adreno 330 GPU and coupled with 1W Hi-Fi sound system is likely to take some beating at this years event.

Knock Code
One of the more popular features, KnockON which was unveiled last year by LG will see an update this year with the new Knock Code. Owners will be able to power on and unlock there G Pro 2 smartphone at the same time using one of 86,367 “knock” combinations. The combinations ranging from two to a maximum eight taps can be entered on any area of the screen even when the phone is completely powered off.

Regarding the new innovation Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said “Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers’ mobile lives. Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree.”

We have to agree with that sentiment, modern mobile phones are filled with an awful lot of clutter, with many Apps running in the background taking up resources and without the ability to turn off or uninstall.

4K Recording
Definitely one of the most eye catching points is the ability to record 4K ULTRA HD video footage for playback on 4K TV sets. Also available is standard HD recording with the ability to edit at three different speeds, Half speed, quarter speed and original speed.
