Nokia and HTC Patent and Technology Agreement Ends Litigation

Nokia and HTC have announced a collaboration agreement that will mean an end to the pending patent litigation battle. The move will see Nokia's licensing offerings expanded and HTC making payments to Nokia, unfortunately the full extent of this agreement is confidential. The companies have also agreed to explore future technology collaboration opportunities.

Paul Melin, chief intellectual property officer at Nokia commented on the settlement, "We are very pleased to have reached a settlement and collaboration agreement with HTC, which is a long standing licensee for Nokia's standards essential patents. This agreement validates Nokia's implementation patents and enables us to focus on further licensing opportunities."

HTC seem equally pleased with Grace Lei, General Counsel of HTC saying "Nokia has one of the most preeminent patent portfolios in the industry. As an industry pioneer in smartphones with a strong patent portfolio, HTC is pleased to come to this agreement, which will enable us to stay focused on innovation for consumers."

Nokia Corporation is a Finnish communications and Information Technology company. Their headquarters are based in Espoo, Finland. Nokia is best known for its mobile and smartphone ranges and was the world's largest supplier of mobile phones from 1998 to 2012.
